Obituary for Manuel Vincent Herrera

Manuel Vincent Herrera
On July 10, 2020, we lost our beloved father Manuel Vincent Herrera, born April 5th, 1928, from complications due to cancer & a fractured hip. Manny was a wonderful husband to Elba, father to Yvette & Eileen, grandfather(pop-pop) to Alexandra, Samantha & Robert Jr, and partner of 16 years to Eve.

He expressed his love for his family and friends through his kind encouraging ways and through his amazing talents. These talents were his beautiful paintings, charcoal pencil drawings & on occasion, his beautiful singing voice reminiscent of the famous crooner Perry Como.

During World War II, he spent some years in the army, stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia where he was trained as a paratrooper. He was proud to serve in the U.S. Military. Many thanks to the VA Hospital for all the care he recieved throughout his illness.

He spent 20 years working for the MTA as a bus driver and shared many stories of his adventures with irate passengers, traffic nightmares and buses breaking down in mid route. He recieved safe driving awards, being a conscientious driver. He was the best driving instructor his daughters ever had!

His life was rich & full. He never forgot the two trips to Europe thanks to the planning ofhis son-in-law’s father, Tom, with whom he got along so well. It was a trip he never thought he would accomplish, even seeing the resting place of his favorite artist Vincent Van Gogh.

His innate kindness & loving personality will be terribly missed by all who loved him. He never failed to tell his children and grandchilren how proud he was of us & how happy he was that we were in his life. May he rest in peace & love with God, with our beloved mother & all those friends & relatives who went before him to their eternal glory.
