I only knew Steve after his illness. Steve invited me to accompany my son to a Mets game -- a great opportunity for me to visit my home turf (Nassau County) and see the team I rooted for after the Dodgers left town. Temperatures in the 90s, seats along the first base line and in the sun. Where's Steve? Waited maybe 10 minutes and son got a phone call: "Whaddaya guys doing down there in this sun?! I'm up here in the bar!"
Only time I met him, but what a man and what a warrior! Son kept me posted on Steve's medical journey and his ongoing courage. Truly an inspiration on how to live and how to die. I love you, Steve. May God bless your family.
