Obituary for Domenico Scotto

Domenico Scotto

Domenico Scotto, also known as Domenico Scotto D'Antuono, better known as Mimi`, passed away on January 11, 2023, at the age of 94 years.
He was born in Monte di Procida, Naples, Italy, on December 24,1928, the son of Gennaro Scotto D’Antuono and Angela (nee Fevola).. Domenico was predeceased by his parents, his brother Aniello, his sisters Teresa Scotto DeMarco, Amelia and Clara Scotto D'Antuono. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cristina Scotto (nee Russo,) his children Angela, Gennaro, Luigi (Denise) Concetta “Tina” Scotto Thomas (David), and his beautiful, adored granddaughters, Stefanie, Victoria and Julianna, in addition to his loving dog, Lucy, all of whom were a great source of joy and pride. He is also survived by his brother Michele, his sister Maria, both of Monte di Procida, in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, here in the United States and Italy. In 1954 he met the love of his life, Cristina, to whom he was married to for 60 years. He enjoyed sharing stories and memories of his youth with children, grandchildren, neighbors and whomever would listen. This happened on the rare occasion when he was actually sitting still. He loved to keep busy doing “jobs”, like painting, fixing things and keeping his and his neighbor's property immaculate. He was a proud and strong man whose voice could be heard down the block. He and his bother Aniello could often be heard "discussing" responses to "Wheel of Fortune" from outside the house. He had a great sense of humor and people flocked to him. Domenico immigrated to the United States in 1969 and became a Longshoreman. He was a member of the International Longshoreman's Association for 25 years, working in, Brooklyn, Manhattan and New Jersey. Domenico was a wonderful person. Everyone knew that he was the one to turn to if you needed help or advice. If you knew him, you were one of the lucky ones. He enjoyed life to its fullest. Domenico loved his wife's amazing cooking, from seafood dinners, especially lobsters, to her homemade escarole and onion pies. You could often find him sketching pictures of boats as a testament to his love of the sea. Most of all, he loved welcoming people to his home and dinner table. He was the "Social Butterfly" of East 1st Street and P.S. 216K, which he patrolled regularly, and also donated a Fig Tree to its Edible Garden.
Domenico will forever be in our hearts and will never be forgotten. "Sternecch" (a nickname from childhood) is truly a memorable person. He was unique, larger (and louder) than life. He was loved and respected by many. May he rest in eternal, sweet peace.
