Obituary for Frank Pantano

Frank Pantano
Frank Pantano
June 7, 1934- October 21, 2020

A beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend left this world on October 21, 2020 after a brief but brutal bout with cancer. Frank Pantano was born to Santo and Marie (Sam and Sadie) Pantano in Brooklyn on June 7, 1934 - the first of five children. He attended P.S. 200 and P.S. 201 in Bensonhurst and graduated from The High School for Printing hoping for a career in printing. However, ended up entering the family trade, (shoes - his father, uncles, and grandfather all owned shoe stores in Brooklyn) and he opened Panvel shoe store on 86th Street in Bensonhurst. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family for 45 years, serving thousands of customers and providing shoes for all the Catholic schools in the neighborhood - always with a smile and a friendly word.

Frank married the love of his life, Marie Petruzziello, on September 3, 1956. They spent the early years of their marriage in Bensonhurst and eventually raised their two sons, Bryant and Jason in a home located across the street from St. Finbar Church. Through much sacrifice and hard work Frank and Marie were able to purchase their current home in Dyker Heights. The home became the center of many family dinners and Christmas Eve celebrations.

After working all day in the store, Frank enjoyed watching baseball on the portable TV in the backyard with his neighbors. As a child he loved the Brooklyn Dodgers, but when they abandoned Brooklyn, Frank’s loyalties turned to the NY Mets. It was a bumpy ride, but he did enjoy watching the games on TV - and talking about the games with his life-long friend, Joey Mazzarella.

Together with Joey and Barbara Mazarella, friends Frank and Claire DelGaudio, neighbors Alex and Marie Cipriano, and many other friends and family - Frank and Marie enjoyed traveling and spending time together socializing and enjoying a life filled with smiles and laughter. Frank was loved by all who knew him.

Frank so enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and spending time with them at the Jersey Shore. They will treasure the times they had together and will miss him dearly. In his retirement years Frank also found a new love - bowling - and a new group of friends to tease and prank. He will be fondly remembered by all of his bowling buddies.

Frank was predeceased by his brother Robert, sister Linda, and his parents, Sam and Sadie. He is survived by his loving wife Marie; sons, Jason Pantano, Bryant Pantano and his wife Jackie; sister MaryAnn Pantano; brother Nino Pantano and his wife Judy; his adoring grandchildren, Brandon Pantano, and wife Kelly Schmidt, Evan Pantano, Mara Pantano, Serena Pantano, Kayla Zychowski and husband Kevin, and Orlagh Mahoney; his great-grandchildren, Finn and Hadley; and his many beloved nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society to honor all those fighting this horrible disease.
