Obituary for Joseph Agate Jr.

Joseph Agate Jr.
Joseph Agate Jr. a beloved Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, a Vietnam Veteran and retired Telephone Technician passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 21, 2023.
He was born on March 17, 1947 to the late Joseph Agate Sr. and Ida Agate. As a young boy he went to school in Maspeth, Queens and later to High School at Grover Cleveland.
After Graduating High School, he enrolled in the Army and served as a Sgt (T) in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. During his service he was awarded three medals; Good Conduct Medal, Expert Marksmanship, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal besides being a Lead Instructor.
With an Honorable Discharge, he then used his skills from the Army to became a telephone technician for AT&T and had three children; Joseph, Anthony and Joann. He later remarried Rose DiMaria in 2005, and soon after retired. Adding to the wonderful family, Rose’s sons; Thomas and Jaime, their spouses and children.
Joseph was amazingly creative and a great handyman. He loved to work with his hands. You would always see him creating masterpieces out of wood in his home garage. He once created a rocking horse he gave to his daughter and the infamous Santa sled and reindeer he proudly displayed on his front lawn during the holidays.
He taught his children life skills and common-sense tactics that each of them still cherish to this day. He also taught them to never give up and to always finish anything you start. “Don’t let things slip through the cracks. Just get it done and move on” he would say.
His love for his wife Rose was magical and the two of them together was a love story only written about in books. They completed each other and shared that love with all of their friends and family.
Joseph is survived by his wife Rose Agate, three children, two stepchildren, 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and his sister Katie Pizzo.
