Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" Mezzo
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Elizabeth (Betty) Mezzo.
Elizabeth was born February 21, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY and after a courageous 3 year battle with cancer, died peacefully on November 17th 2023. At the time of her death, Elizabeth was surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband John P. Mezzo and is survived by her son John S. Mezzo, daughter in law Cathryn Mezzo, daughter Laura Pasquarello, and son in law Michael Pasquarello. She treasured the countless hours she spent with her 4 grandchildren. Michael Pasquarello, Zachary Mezzo, FaithAnn Pasquarello, and Anthony Pasquarello. They will all miss “Grandma Betty” terribly.
In addition to raising two children and maintaining all aspects of her home (especially the cooking) Elizabeth was a key part of the team that ran the famous Mezzo Pastry Shoppe of Coney Island. She was a critical part of the business for over 30 years. Afterwards she went on to work for Mitzui bank, Corbis Images, and then Safe Horizon (a shelter for women who suffered from domestic abuse)
Elizabeth, was famous for saying “knock with your feet”. A motto she lived by. Meaning, one should always bring gifts to others in such great abundance, that they must knock on the door with their feet. Elizabeth gave all she had to those around her and will always be remembered for her unconditional love, selfless giving, and for bringing humor into the world with her animated storytelling…
